Axolotl Cortex. In its simplest aesthetic meaning cortex relates to the alternating regions of relatively darker and lighter wood grains resulting from the differing growth parameters occurring across the seasons on a cut or split piece of wood.
Causes including stress and special grain alignments produce articulated natural features in wood. Their rarity often promotes the value of both the raw material and the finished work of which it becomes a part.
To make Cortex we manipulate the substrate to create the cortex rivulets according to your exact design.
We then add one of our Axolotl applied surfaces and work the material by hand.
The results are the complex fascias you see below.
Entrance doors – Garage Doors – Facades – Columns – Cabinetry
Phenolic resin – Compact Laminate – MDF – Tricoya
COMPATIBLE AXOLOTL FINISHES
Applied Metal, Applied Concrete, Applied Terracotta
MAXIMUM INDIVIDUAL PANEL SIZE
3′ x 8′ – 2400mm x 1200mm.
Flat surfaces only.
Due to its irregular design Cortex is a texture that is best extended across adjoining panels using expressed.
This allows for much larger overall installations.
Cortex is suitable for use outdoors when the correct substrate is chosen.
